Müge GÜÇSAVAŞ ÇALIKOĞLU

Dr Gucsavas-Calikoglu is a board-certified pediatrician, clinical geneticist and medical biochemical specialist. She is currently an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine at Chapel Hill, North Carolina and faculty in the Division of Pediatric Genetics and Metabolism. She is a 1983 graduate of Ankara University Faculty of Medicine and became a pediatrician at Hacettepe Children’s Hospital in 1990. After completion of a clinical genetics fellowship in Oklahoma in 1993, she moved to Chapel Hill. She is a graduate of the UNC Gillings School of Public Health with a master’s degree in Epidemiology. She is actively engaged in clinical care of patients with rare genetic disorders, diagnosis and long-term follow-up of metabolic patients through the North Carolina Newborn screening program, epidemiologic research through the NC and National Birth Defects Surveillance programs and research with NC exome sequencing project (NCGENES). She is also responsible for training of medical students, pediatric residents and fellows at her institution and within the state. Her expertise is the intersection of genetics and public health, particularly the effective and efficient use of resources in diagnosis of complex conditions.
