Turhan Sofuoğlu
He was born in 1958 in Bursa. He graduated from Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine in 1982. Between 1986 and 2014, he worked as a doctor and manager for 28 years in the field of Pre-hospital Emergency Medical Services. During this period, he carried out the duties of İzmir 077 Hızır Emergency Service and 112 Emergency Medical Services Branch Manager. He worked as the Provincial Health Deputy Director responsible for Emergency and Disaster Medical Services in İzmir province, and undertook the establishment of İzmir 112 Ambulance Service and UMKE between 1998-2014. As a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of Emergencies and Disasters Medical Services of the Ministry of Health, he took an active role in the preparation of laws, regulations and many projects regarding these topics. He actively worked as a manager in the 1999 Marmara Earthquake, the evacuation of the injured from Libya in 2011 and the Soma Mine accident happend at 2014. He was sent to Germany and Japan by the Ministry of Health to receive training in ambulance systems and disaster medicine.
Dr. Sofuoğlu, served as the Deputy Chief Physician in charge of Hospital Disaster Plans at İzmir Tepecik Training and Research Hospital between 2015-2020. He has been the Chairman of the Board of Emergency Ambulance Physicians Association since 2004. He has worked as a coordinator in many national and international projects in the fields of Emergency Medical Services and Disaster Medicine and has many scientific publications and researches published in Turkey and abroad.
