Canan Türkyılmaz
Canan Türkyilmaz was born in Konya, Turkey and is a graduate of Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine, Ankara, Turkey in 1987. Her residency was at Pediatrics in Gazi University Faculty of Medicine in Ankara, Turkey in 1993 and she completed her training with Neonatology fellowship in the same university in 1999. Dr. Türkyılmaz had visited to NICU in Harvard University Brigham and Women Hospital in Boston in 2002.
Dr. Türkyılmaz kept on working at the Department of Neonatology at Gazi University Faculty of Medicine , first as Assistant Professor in 2002, then as Associate Professor in 2004 and as Professor in 2010. Prof. Dr. Türkyılmaz is also the director of Breastfeeding Support and Relactation Unit in Gazi University Hospital since 2014. Prof. Dr. Türkyılmaz is a member of Turkish National Pediatrics Society, Turkish Pediatrics Association, Turkish Neonatal Society, Temas Anne Sütü Gönüllüleri Derneği and also Turkish Pediatrics Board Commission and National Pediatrics Curriculum Committee.
Prof. Dr. Türkyılmaz had been attended various Turkish Ministry of Health committee about maternal, neonatal and perinatal mortality, integrated management of childhood ilness, neonatal hearing screening, assisted reproductive technologies and Baby Friendly Hospitals and Breastfeeding Support Scientific Committee since 2002. Dr. Türkyılmaz is also an educator of neonatal resuscitation program and Baby Friendly Hospitals Initiative.
Prof. Dr. Türkyılmaz is an experienced physician over 30 years and has spent 20 years in Neonatology with special interest in hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy animal models, neuronal apoptosis, neonatal nutrition, breastfeeding, breast milk and relactation.
Prof. Dr. Türkyılmaz is also active in medical education especially problem based learning, communication and clinical skills in medicine in Gazi University Faculty of Medicine. Prof. Dr. Turkyilmaz has authored over 100 publications in many national and international journals in addition to 12 Turkish, one English book chapters. She has also given conferences as invited speaker at over 90 national and international congress/symposium/courses in pediatrics and neonatology. Prof. Dr. Canan Türkyılmaz has eight awards, eight scientific projects, four international course certificates. She has actively worked in updating national nutritional guidelines in Turkish Neonatal Society and breastfeeding counselling education material.
She resides in Ankara with his husband and two children.
