Belgin Ünal
Dr. Ünal was graduated from the Ege University Faculty of Medicine in Izmir, Turkey. She obtained a Master of Public Health degree from Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel (1998), and a PhD degree from the University of Liverpool, UK (2004). She also had public health speciality training from Dokuz Eylul University and became a public health specialist in 1999.
Currently, she works as a Professor of Public Health in the Dokuz Eylul University, İzmir, a leading Public Health Department in Turkey.
Dr Ünal’s research focused on non- communicable disease epidemiology, especially cardiovascular disease epidemiology, prevention and modeling the impacts of risk factor trends on mortality and morbidity.
She was co-applicant of two successful European Commission FP7 Projects namely MedCHAMPS and RESCAPMED that were also on modelling the non-communicable disease trends and building research capacity on non-communicable disease epidemiology in the Eastern Mediterranean Region.
Besides academic research, she provides consultancy to MoH. She was editor of the national survey titled ‘Chronic Disease and Risk Factor Survey in Turkey (CDRFT) in year 2011 and 2019 follow-up. The survey provided data on prevalence of NCDs and risk factors that will be used to monitor the trends at the population level in the coming years.
Dr. Ünal, has 85 research articles in inernational journals and her “h” index is 22.
