Mehmet Umut Akyol is Professor of Otorhinolaryngology at Hacettepe University, Ankara, Turkey, and also runs a private ear, nose and throat (ENT) clinic in Ankara.
Professor Akyol received his medical degree from Ankara University School of Medicine, before completing an otorhinolaryngology residency at Hacettepe University Medical School, Turkey. He has undertaken fellowships in the USA in the ENT Departments at Tulane University, Pittsburgh University School of Medicine and Pittsburgh Children’s Hospital. He earned his Professor title in otorhinolaryngology at Hacettepe Hospital.
His research focus is on paediatric otorhinolaryngology head and neck surgery, and Professor Akyol has authored many scientific articles and book chapters in this field.
Professor Akyol has held positions as President of the Turkish Paediatric ENT Association and Board Member of the European Society of Paediatric Otorhinolaryngology. He has also represented the Turkish Medical Association in the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS) for many years, and is a Board Member of the CME/CPD Coordination Committee of Medical Specialist Societies in the Turkish Medical Association.
